TACHI PALACE CASINO. The Tachi-Yokut Tribe (Tribe) proposes future expansions of the existing Tachi Palace Casino Resort complex on tribal trust land located in Kings County, approximately 2.75 miles southeast of the City of Lemoore, California. A Tribal Environmental Assessment (TEA) was prepared consistent with Section 10.8 of the 1999 Tribal-State Gaming Compact and the. In past years when patrons arrived at Tachi Palace Casino Resort in Lemoore, California, they were greeted by a chock-a-block structure with an ordinary color scheme.

But a yearlong renovation project is reframing the way visitors will perceive the site, which opened in 1983 and is owned and operated by the Tachi-Yokut Tribe.
“We never had a sense of entry here,” says General Manager Michael Olujic. “We had different entry points after we expanded. So, I’m really excited about that sense of entry and sense of vertical integration. We really have that vertical stimulation of bright primary colors. It kind of has that fun ‘70s vibe to it.”

The $80 million project, being done by the Las Vegas-based Cuningham Group Architecture, will include 24,000 square feet of additional space. New features include an expansive sports bar with indoor and outdoor dining; an expanded food court; a high-limit room on the third floor; and renovated hotel rooms.

Olujic is especially excited about a renovation that will integrate the site’s Coyote Entertainment Center, casino, and hotel.
“You’re going to be able to look from one end of the casino to the other and not have a wall or hallway breaking up your view,” he says.
There have been other renovations at Tachi Palace since 2000, but according to Olujic, this is the first one that attempts to tie together all the site’s amenities. Noting that casino expansions are often “disjointed,” the goal of the present project is to create a symmetrical casino and resort with a “sense of entry,” he says.
“It will look like one property that’s always been designed that way and is supposed to be that way,” Olujic says. “We’re really looking at designing a second generational property. In the future, you may change out some carpeting or colors on the walls or ceiling fixtures, and you’ll be able to do that and have a forever building.”
The renovations will enhance improvements necessitated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Last year new state-of-the-art HVAC and air purification systems were installed, as were contactless technology for some amenities and games and handwashing and sanitizing stations. Slot machines in the casino were spaced at least six feet apart.
“What this is going to do is give us the ability to further expand our position on being COVID safe,” Olujic says. “And not just COVID, but what we call a future germ-safe environment. Even when COVID goes away, we’ll be able to have up to 3,000 machines in a COVID-safe spacing environment at least six feet apart. We’re not going away from that. That’s going to be the new normal for us at Tachi Palace Casino Resort.”
